RE: What's IBM/Lotus' plan to win the email war? ~Justin Minluternivu 2.Oct.02 10:51 PM a Web browser Notes Client 6.0All Platforms
People want what they're told they want. If Microsoft tells them often enough that all they want is file sharing and e-mail, that's what they'll think they want. The "database stuff" is NOT a bonus -- it's what Notes is all about. The e-mail stuff is the bonus. That's what we have to tell people, and keep telling them. We're ALL in Sales, peoples. If all that Notes is used for in an organisation is mail, then someone wasn't doing their job from the get-go. (Despite the Messaging Server option, which can be sold on the virus issue, I don't think that mail alone can sustain Notes in any meaninful way.)
Notes/Domino is as much about eliminating e-mail as anyhting else. Yes, it uses messaging, but the "knowledge bases" make collaboration more than a game of phone-and-e-mail tag. The simplest of databases can more than adequately demonstrate the concept, and can penetrate the thickest of skulls. All it takes is a little effort on the sales front.
